Hā ki roto
Hā ki waho
Kia tau te mauri
e kokiri nei
I nga piki
me ngā heke
Ko te rangimarie
tāku e rapu nei
Tihei mauri ora
Breathe in
Breath out
Settle the mauri
that stirs inside me
through the ups and the downs
This is the peace that I seek
Tihei mauri ora
Tēnā koutou
My name is Ngaire Tigeir.
I am a registered Arts Therapist with ANZACATA (AThR) and I am a creative creature dipping and dabbling in many art forms.
My background is in working in a diverse range of mental health and disability settings in Aotearoa NZ, and Scotland. This mahi has included: professional support work; peer support; addictions counselling working with youths and their families/whānau and adults, within a psychiatric hospital and in therapuetic community.
I am currently working with women over the age of 18 who are interested in using the visual arts to assist them on their wellbeing journey. My work is about walking alongside people who are interested in moving towards an increased capacity for joy, play, self-compassion, confidence, curiosity and hope.
Building a strong therapuetic relationship is key to my mahi, as is using a client-led approach, mindfulness, and compassion practices. As an Arts Therapist and creative being, these approaches are always always alongside creative art exploration and responses.
I can use Māori models of health with those receptive to these approaches.
Using natural materials is a passion of mine. Finding ways to bring ‘nature’ into my mahi to increase grounding and connectivity to the environment and develop new understandings about change and growth is important to me and something I offer those I work with.
